Today I am in the gym talking about wellness and ways that I rejuvenate myself, and the gym is one of those ways. It’s one of my happy places.
And so in my earlier video, I talked about the beach and how much joy it brings me and how much it rejuvenates me, and unfortunately I can’t be at the beach every day. Someday I hope to have a beach house. That’s one of my dreams. But for now, on a daily basis, it’s the gym. And I think that it will always be that way for me.
Now, has it always been? No. About 5 years ago, I started getting into working out and learning, and a few years ago I had a trainer named Jared who really challenged me and has pushed me lots of different times. He has especially challenged me this year in 2023.
Back in January, he asked me “hey can you do any chin-ups” and I was like “no I don’t really think that’s something that women do too much,” and he’s like “exactly.” And so he pushed me and I could do two when I started and then I got up to eight.
So this is one of the ways that I try to take care of myself on a regular basis and it does affect my mental health. The more I stay with it, even if it’s not a perfect workout, it makes me happy and it gives me energy to do other hard things in my life: to work, to parent, deal with relationship stuff. So, working out is a way that I take care of my mental health.
So these used to intimidate me. I didn’t know what to do with them, but just get a little training, you know one or two sessions, you can learn a lot. Or maybe months worth of sessions, either way. But don’t be intimidated. Hit the gym, start where you can, and keep becoming your best self.
